A 16-year-old boy has died and four others have been injured, two critically, in a traffic crash north of Brisbane during a horror week on Queensland roads.

Police said initial inquiries suggested their car lost control and struck a power pole on Anzac Avenue, Rothwell, just before 3:00pm.

The front passenger died at the scene.

Four other people in the car, including teenagers and children, were taken to hospital, two with critical injuries.

A second car can be seen crashed into the curb.

Paramedics said five other people were assessed by paramedics at the scene but did not require further treatment.
