Police are investigating after a woman’s body was found in Parkville in Melbourne’s inner north this morning.

The woman, who is yet to be identified, was found near tennis courts near Elliott Avenue about 9:15am, police said in a statement.

The exact cause of the woman’s death was yet to be determined and the investigation was ongoing.

Officers have used police tape to cordon off a large section of Royal Park near North Park Tennis Club and the Flemington Road Cricket Oval.

Uniformed and plain-clothed police are on the scene, as well as forensics officers and SES crews.

Police on bicycles were also riding around the park and could be seen talking to passers-by.

Despite the large police presence, children are still playing their regular Saturday morning tennis at the nearby courts.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

More to come.
