Five men have been arrested over the alleged murder of a Queensland man whose burnt body was found in bushland on the NSW mid-north coast two days after Christmas.

Key points:

  • Tyron Beauchamp was threatened on Facebook before he was killed
  • One threat read “I’m going to break you and bury you where nobody will ever find your remains”
  • Police arrested four men — aged 19, 22, 23 and 24 — at separate homes in the town of Taree early today

NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews were battling a blaze at Yarratt State Forest whey they found Tyron Beauchamp’s remains in the early hours of the morning on December 27.

A post-mortem revealed the 41-year-old was seriously assaulted in another location before his body was dumped in the bush and set on fire.

Homicide detectives, assisted by special tactical police officers, arrested four men — aged 19, 22, 23 and 24 — at separate homes across Taree early today.

A 42-year-old man was also detained at Taree police station — the station where the four men are being questioned over Mr Beauchamp’s suspected murder.

Court documents allege Mr Beauchamp was a methamphetamine user who stole a car from an elderly woman before he was killed.

Emily-Jayde Hampton, Mr Beauchamp’s friend, told the ABC she believed justice had been served following the arrests of the five men.

“He surely didn’t deserve what happened to him, he was a caring gentle guy with a big heart,” she said.

“May he rest easy now.”

Just days before Mr Beauchamp was found dead, he received a death threat on his Facebook page.

“I’m going to break you and bury you where nobody will ever find your remains [you’re] a dog,” a post by a “Jim Smith” said.

Police had been trying to track down the person who made the threat, but it was believed it could have been a fake profile.

The Facebook post has since been deleted, but Mr Beauchamp had replied to the threat.

“How bout U show ya face n I’ll come meet U, f***in scum haha,” he said.

Investigations are continuing.
