A Melbourne man is expected to appear in court today charged over the hit-and-run death of a man who was killed while walking home from his soccer club.

Arthur Frangis, 78, was honoured last night with a special tribute match at the Westvale Soccer Club, where he had been a lifelong member and long-time volunteer.
He was struck by a car in St Albans, in Melbourne’s west, just after 9:00pm on Wednesday night.
Police said the driver did not stop and it was left to a passer-by to call for an ambulance.
Mr Frangis died at the scene.
A 64-year-old Essendon man has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, failing to stop and failing to render assistance.
He was charged on Friday night and remanded in custody ahead of today’s hearing in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court.
“Investigators would like to thank the public and media for their assistance,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
In a Facebook post, Mr Frangis’s soccer club described him as a “true club legend” who volunteered in the canteen and served at the bar.
The penalty for not stopping at the scene of the accident is a maximum of 10 years in prison.
