A family of ducks spotted waddling over Brisbane’s busy Gateway Motorway during peak hour has received a personal police escort to safety.

Traffic cameras captured vision of the seven ducklings and their mother making the long trip over the southbound Sir Leo Hielscher Bridge about 7:30am on Wednesday.

A Transurban spokeswoman said an incident response crew and a police motorcyclist kept traffic out of the left lane where the ducks were to ensure their safe passage.

“We also provided advance notice to motorists who were approaching the bridge, advising them to slow down and move over to ensure everyone’s safety during the incident,” the spokeswoman said.

“The ducks made it safely off the bridge and were taken away by animal control for a quick once-over.”

More than 116,000 trips are made across the Gateway Motorway bridges daily.
