A two-month-old baby has died on board an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur to Perth.
Key points:
- The plane was met by emergency crews and medical teams on its arrival
- AirAsia said subsequent flights had been delayed as a result of the emergency
- WA Police are preparing a report into the death for the Coroner.
The baby was involved in what the airline called a “medical emergency” on board flight D7236 arriving from the Malaysian capital early this morning.
An AirAsia spokesman confirmed the plane was met by a team of medical specialists and WA Police on its arrival at Perth International Airport.
Officers are investigating the incident and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
“We are unable to comment further on the infant’s medical situation, however our thoughts are with the infant and family involved,” an AirAsia spokesman said in a statement.
The same plane was set to depart at 6:50am as AirAsia flight D7237 from Perth back to Kuala Lumpur, but it has been delayed as a result of the emergency.
The plane was still on the tarmac at 9:30am local time, and a number of police officers were seen outside the aircraft and boarding the plane.
The AirAsia spokesperson apologised for any inconvenience caused by the delay and said the airline would help travellers to re-book.
