Harvey Hosein has reached the 12th first-class half-century of his career and how Derbyshire needed it.
It came in 106 balls and included seven fours. He also put on 56 for the sixth wicket partnership with Matt Critchley. And so far Critchley’s wicket, lbw to Gareth Harte for 24, is the only one since lunch.
After a tough start in which the hosts lost two wickets in the first three balls, they are now fighting back under grey skies in Derby.
This is only the second time these two have met each other in the opening game of the season. The 1994 encounter in Chesterfield brought a Durham win.
Of the 25 occasions, Derbyshire have been 0-2 in the first over they have managed just one win. That was against Gloucestershire in 1991.
