A man is due to face court after he allegedly murdered his wife in their south-west Sydney home as their two children slept.

Key points:

  • Altaf Hossain was charged with murdering his wife Syeda in their Minto home
  • Two children, aged six and 10, were sleeping inside at the time
  • The 49-year-old is due to face court in Parramatta today

The body of Syeda Hossain, 33, was found in the garage of the Minto property about 4:00am on Easter Sunday.

Her husband Altaf Hossain, 49, was arrested at the scene and taken to Campbelltown Police Station to be questioned.

He needed treatment for a hand injury at Fairfield Hospital, but was charged with murder upon his release.

Mr Hossain was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today.

Two children, aged six and 10, were asleep inside the home but weren’t injured.

They were taken with officers to the local station after being woken up.

The home remained a crime scene on Sunday afternoon, with the Homicide Squad and forensic crews combing it for evidence.

A relative of the victim is reportedly caring for the children.
