The mother of a woman who was abducted in her own car on the Gold Coast heard her daughter being attacked through the car’s bluetooth hands-free system, police say.

The woman, 26, was walking to her car in the Robina Town Centre carpark about 4:45pm on Monday afternoon when a stranger approached her and covered her mouth.
Police said the man forced her into her car and ordered her to drive north on the motorway.
Detective Inspector Brendan Smith said before she was attacked, the woman was on the phone to her mother and the call stayed connected when she was pushed into the car.
“The bluetooth has actually kicked in and the mother could overhear the conversation and what was going on in the vehicle,” he said.
“When she understood what was going on, she understood her daughter was in some sort of distress, she’s hung up [and] rung police.”
He said police and negotiators then managed to contact the man by calling the woman’s phone.
They convinced him to allow the woman to pull over, before he fled into bushland near the Gaven exit.
Police believe the man then hitchhiked to Mudgeeraba, where he was last seen.
Detective Inspector Smith said it was a traumatic experience for the woman.
“She hasn’t got any visible injuries, but obviously emotionally,” he said.
The man, who is yet to be found by police, is described as Caucasian, aged in his fifties and was wearing a black T-shirt and blue denim shorts.
Police believe they have a person of interest but have urged the public to contact police if they see him.
