Tasmanian Governor Kate Warner has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, Government House has announced.

In a statement, Government House said it was the most common form of lymphoma and is curable.

The Governor will need a number of cycles of chemotherapy over several months.

The statement said she is otherwise fit and healthy and is expected to maintain her duties during her treatment.

Professor Warner and Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman are holding a press conference this morning.

She was sworn in as Tasmania’s first female governor in 2014 after a long career in law.

Four years ago, she was made a member of the Order of Australia for her service to the law, particularly in areas of reform and education.

More to come.
